TS sets up Cabinet Sub-Committee to promote food processing sector

Hyderabad: The State government constituted a Cabinet Sub-Committee to make recommendations for promotion of food processing industry against the backdrop of a big increase in ayacut area in a majority of districts.

Constituted under the Chairmanship of Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, the sub-committee will explore various options in developing food processing sector in the State. The government felt that due to construction of major, medium and minor irrigation projects besides rejuvenating village tanks under Mission Kakatiya programme, the crop area had drastically gone up in the State during the past few years.

The committee was directed to study the ground-level situation and submit its report within three months. The committee would study aspects such as changes to be brought in cultivation methods after interacting with farmers in different districts.

The other members of the committee include Etela Rajender, KT Rama Rao, Jupally Krishna Rao and T Harish Rao. Principal Secretary, Agriculture C Partha Sarathi was appointed as convener for the committee.

Based on the feedback report submitted by Agriculture Secretary C Partha Sarathi, the government wanted to develop food processing sector in the State and constituted the Cabinet Sub-Committee in this regard. He recently held a video conference with the district agriculture offices and asked them to submit cluster-wise crop details to ensure related food processing units would be developed in the cluster.
