Telangana Congress wants MNREGS arrears cleared

Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress on Monday alleged that the State government was not clearing payments to Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) workers on time.

Addressing a training programme organised by the Indian National Trade Union Congress on Monday for workers in the informal and agriculture sectors, Telangana Congress president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said the the NREGS programme was launched to ensure survival of the poor in villages, both the Central and State governments were ignoring its proper implementation. Workers under the programme have been waiting for their wages for the past four months, he said.

His party will raise this issue in the Legislative Assembly and Council, he added. The training session was also addressed by AICC secretary RC Khuntia and INTUC national president Dr G Sanjeeva Reddy.
