Scholars laud Telangana govt for encouraging Urdu

Mahabubnagar: Professor Majid Bedaar, former head of the Department of Urdu, Osmania University, said that the encouragement given to the language by the State government makes it feel like the language has been reborn. Speaking at the first State Urdu Conference and Mushaira in Mahabubnagar district on Saturday, scholars, writers and poets lauded the State government for passing a resolution in the Assembly recognising Urdu as the second official language of Telangana State and held that the injustice done to the language for several decades had finally ended.

Prof Majid did raise certain issues such as inclusion of one Urdu language expert as a member in the official languages committee and hoped the government would take steps to introduce Urdu in every government school. He also hoped the government would soon fill all the vacant posts in Urdu medium schools by conducting a special DSC. “Sanskrit came from Aryans who came from outside India and Farsi came from Jewish people who were also from outside India. But Urdu, which is a mix of Sanksrit, Hindi, Telugu and many other languages was born in India,” he noted.

Professor Fathima, former Principal, OU Arts College, pointed-out that Urdu was a language used by people from all religions and that many widely used Urdu words had become symbolic with Telangana society. Appreciating the government for issuing a GO for conducting TSPSC exams in Urdu also, she said the government was taking positive steps to encourage the language.

MLA V Srinivas Goud, who was the chief guest for the event, assured that he would convey all the issues raised by the speakers with Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and would also strive to get an Urdu Bhavan for Mahabubnagar district. The conference was jointly organised by Urdu Development Committee of Telangana and Mahabubnagar Democratic Muslims Organisation. Md Taqi Hussain Taqi and his team worked hard for conducting the conference.
