Kaleshwaram water for Yadadri district by June

Hyderabad: The Minister for Irrigation T Harish Rao announced on Thursday that the parched upland areas in Yadadri Bhongir district would be given water from the Kaleshwaram project by the onset of monsoon.

He reviewed the implantation of packages 15 and 16 of the Kaleshwaram project at Jala Soudha with senior officials and the implementation agencies. He wanted them to step up the pace of works on Baswapur and Gandhamalla reservoirs.

The Minister said that the distributaries of the Gandhamalla reservoirs must be completed at any cost beforehand to facilitate the release of water to the ayacut enabling the farmers to raise Kharif crops.

Some 21,000 acres of land will benefit once water is released to the ayacut. It will also help fill as many as 100 minor irrigation tanks in Gandhamalla area. A bit of extra effort will help give water to 40,000 acres in the area ahead of the completion of the reservoir.

He said the focus should be on the completion of the distributaries ahead of the reservoir. The reservoir was being constructed to create a gross storage of 4.2 tmc to provide irrigation to 65,000 acres.

He also enquired about the progress of work on the 35 km stretch of canal that would be connecting Mallanna Sagar with Gandhamalla reservoir.

Government Whip Gongidi Sunita, Principal Secretary, Vikas Raj, Yadadri Bhongir District Collector Anita Ramchandran, Irrigation Engineer-in-Chief Murali Dhar and Kaleshwaram Chief Engineer Hariram were among those who took part in the review meeting.
