Clause to remove sarpanches to be included in new PR Act: KTR

Rajanna-Sircilla: Information Technology and Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao said that a special clause to remove inactive sarpanches is going to be incorporated in the new Panchayat Raj Act, which would be amended very soon.

KTR made this comments while participating in various developmental programme in Mustabad mandal on Thursday. Addressing the gathering at a newly constructed village panchayat building, he made it clear that the new act was not only intended to punish sarpanches but special responsibilities and funds would be given to them.

Except few, a majority of sarpanches visit mandal headquarters and make rounds around Thasildhar and mandal parishad office instead of solving problems in the village. It was regular practice for them. In order to strengthen the panchayat raj system, the State government is bringing the new PR act, which would provide responsibilities as well as funds to sarpanches.

Thandas would also be made village panchayats soon. In this regard, a discussion was held with the Chief Minister K Chandrasekahar Rao.

Expressing unhappy over poor sanitation and development in rural areas, KTR said though there were more than 10,000 village panchayats in the State, only few villages such as Gangidevipalli, Ibrahimpur, Katkur, Ramannapet and Ankapur were model villages.

Construction of new buildings, laying roads, drainages and other works was not real development. Growth of the villages was not possible without the participation of the local people even if the government dumps crores of rupees. Youth, women, ward members, sarpnaches, and others should come forwards and keep their localities clean.

It was the responsibility of the sarpanchs and MPTCs to take measures to reach funds to the people, KTR said and advised the public representatives to prepare a plan by involving all sections of the society for the development of the their villages. Then only the villages would become model habitations.

“Political leaders are not permanent. They will step down after completing their term. But villages are permanent”, he said

Showing boons on Mustabad mandal, Minister assured to upgrade mandal headquarter if the local people were interested. He also assured to develop a park in eight acres near Peddacheruvu mini tank bund and a grave yard.
