Tiger Census: volunteers appreciated

Hyderabad: Forest Department on Tuesday recognised the efforts of hundreds of volunteers, including doctors, techies and senior citizens, who signed up for the recent week-long Tiger Census in Telangana.

Certificates of appreciation signed by the head of the State’s Forest Force PK Jha were given to each volunteer for participating in ‘All India Tiger Estimation 2018′ survey.

A statement from the Forest Department said hundreds of volunteers had been discussing the situation in the forests and the measures to protect animals.

“The volunteers were enthusiastic in their work, and many of them offered valuable suggestions to the department,” officials said.

Phase I of the census concluded that the number of wild animals in all forest areas of the State was on the rise. However, numbers would only be confirmed after Phase II of the census.

At the meeting held in Aranya Bhavan in Khairatabad, officials also discussed measures for wildlife protection, forestry and volunteers’ cooperation.
