Pilfered rice seized; Social Welfare official in the dock

Nizamabad: Civil Supply officials seized 67 bags of 40 kg each and overall weighing 33 quintals of fine rice (Sanna Bhiyyam) from a house at Chandrashekhar Colony of Nizamabad. The rice was allocated to social welfare hostels.

Cases were registered against four persons. On Thursday midnight, when a few persons were trying to illegally transport midday meal rice to Maharashtra in a vehicle, a few others tried to prevent them. Local corporator Changubhai reached the spot after receiving the information and informed the Civil Supplies Department and Commissioner of Police.

During an investigation, the officials found that Namdevwada Social Welfare warden Maruthi, drew this rice from the MLA Point and stored the rice in the house of Srinivas with the help of MLA Point hamalies. After storing the rice, they sold the bags to the Paddy Purchasing agent Kiran and tried to transport it to Maharashtra in the midnight.

Case were booked against the Namedevwada Social Welfare hostel warden Maruthi, Srinivas, MLA Point hamali Mehaboob and Paddy purchasing agent Kiran.
