Operation Smile-IV takes off in Nalgonda

Suryapet/Nalgonda: A special drive to rescue child labour, Operation Smile-IV, was launched in the district by forming special teams comprising police, ICDS and Labour Department officials.

Operation Smile and Operation Muskaan are the two special drives designed by the Centre to identify, track, locate, rescue and rehabilitate children who went missing and found to be subjected to abuse and exploitation. Operation Muskaan specifically deals with tracing missing children.

In the erstwhile Nalgonda district, 234 children were rescued in Operation Smile-I and 402 children during Operation Muskaan-I. Similarly, 402 children were rescued as a part of Operation Smile-II and 401 children in Operation Muskaan-II.

During Operation Smile-III, 700 children were rescued while 421 children during Operation Muskaan-III. A majority of the rescued were child labour, working in brick kiln units.

The month-long Operation Smile would continue till January 30 and the special teams would raid shops, brick kiln units, spinning mills and hotels to rescue the child labour. Two rescue teams were set up in Suryapet district to carry out Operation Smile in the district. One team would work in Suryapet revenue division and the second team in Kodad revenue division.

Nalgonda district Superintendent of Police DV Srinivas Rao said three rescue teams were set up in the district to carry out Operation Simile-1V in the district.
