Kakatiya Medical College hopes to add 51 PG seats

Warangal Urban: The management of State-run Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) sent a proposal to Medical Council of India (MCI) to add 51 more seats in its post-graduate courses for 2018-19. The management is confident of getting at least 34 seats.

According to sources, the management is contemplating to introduce psychiatry and radiotherapy courses, with an intake of four in each. It sent a proposal in this regard to MCI. It also wants to increase 13 seats in MD gynecology, 12 in anesthesia, six in paediatrics, and two each in radiology, ENT and DVL courses. Proposals were also sent for an increase of four seats in other departments.

Presently, the total intake of PG seats at KMC is 110. As the college recently set up a psychiatry department with a professor, associate professor and assistant professor, it is confident of getting four PG seats in the stream.

Though there are some gaps in the infrastructure, the management hopes to fill the gaps before the MCI inspection. It is also banking on the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) to help it bag the seats.

Speaking to Telangana Today, KMC principal Dr V Chandrashekar said he was confident that MCI would clear the proposals as KMC is one of the oldest government colleges in Telangana.

“We sent the proposals only after assessing the availability of infrastructure at the college. Considering this, I hope at least 34 PG seats will be sanctioned to the college,” he said.
