Fast-track Mid-Manair works: Harish Rao

Hyderabad: Minister for Irrigation T Harish Rao directed the irrigation authorities to complete all civil, mechanical works and erection of crust gates on Mid-Manair project before February 15.

Reviewing the progress on the project at Jala Soudha, he said the works on Kaleshwararm project were put on fast-track and its completion in time is assured. The Mid-Manair project should also be ready as per the schedule to give water to its ayacut from the next kharif.

He also directed revenue authorities take action against those submitted false affidavits for claiming compensation of those displaced under the project. He wanted criminal cases to be booked against mandal revenue officer for issuing such affidavits. He made it clear that there would not be any scope for irregularities in the payment of fair compensations to the oustees.

The assets being affected by the project should be verified village wise and estimates should be prepared for every-affected structure. He asked the officials to complete the fabrication of all the 25 gates of the project and install them on a war footing.

Representatives of the agencies implementing the project informed him that the fabrication work pertaining to gate number 25 was still in progress and it might take less than a week for the completion. He stressed the need to speed up the Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) exercise on which the government had already spent Rs 1,200 crore so far.

Rajanna-Sircilla District Collector Krishna Bhaskar informed the Minister a total of 300 houses were already constructed for the rehabilitation of displaced families. In all, some 7,419 houses were being affected by the Mid-Manair project once it is completed. Another 1,500 houses were in different stages of construction for allotment to the displaced. He directed the officials to provide basic amenities in all 13 R&R colonies being constructed for the displaced.

He pointed out that the entire project involved 4.8 lakh cubic metres of concrete works of which work on only 65,200 cubic metres was completed during 10 years of Congress rule. The TRS government completed concrete works in 3.49 lakh cubic metres in the past three and half years.

Work in some 1.30 lakh cubic metres was done in the last one year. The TRS government spent Rs 358 crore on the project ever since the formation of Telangana against Rs 107 crore spent by the Congress.

The Minister adopted the latest technology for round-the-clock monitoring of the ongoing project works’ progress on all the barrages being constructed as part of the Kaleshwaram.

The engineering officials who took part in the review were surprised to witness the works being carried out on the project on a screen at Jala Soudha in the day thanks to the remote-video surveillance systems put to use.
