Decrease investment, increase production: Pocharam to ryots

Nalgonda: Underlining the need to bring down the investment and increase the production in agriculture, Minister for Agriculture Pocharam Srinivas Reddy on Saturday said the State government was working to help farmers lead a respectful life.

Along with Minister for Power G Jagadish Reddy, the Agriculture Minister interacted with farmers and members of Farmers’ Coordination Committees at Peddakaparthy of Chityal mandal in Nalgonda district.

Speaking on the occasion, Srinivas Reddy also enquired about the opinions from the farmers on input crop assistance scheme. The farmers should properly utilise the financial help to be extended by State government and get maximum benefit from the cultivation, he added.

Reminding that there were 71,75,096 farmers and 1.4 crore acres cultivable land in the State, the Agriculture Minister said the State government would spend Rs 5,700 crore per each crop season for investment support scheme for farmers.

Stating that he was now seeing pro-farmer government in his 40 years political life, he said making Telangana farmers model farmers in the country was ultimate the goal of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

“Farmers should adopt new cultivation methods and best agriculture practices to get at least Rs 50,000 of profit per acre. For this, we need to work with two principles — decrease investment – increase production and increase income-decrease debt,” he said.

Stating that FCCs have a great role to play in educating the farmers on the government schemes and best cultivation methods, he underlined the need to educate the farmers on benefits of crop pattern changing. The farmers should also switch to organic cultivation methods and reduce the usage of chemical fertilizers.

He pointed out that an Agriculture Extension Officer was appointed for every 5,000 acres to strengthen the agriculture sector by giving suggestions to the farmers.

Reminding that the State government was implementing the welfare schemes irrespective of politics, he pointed out that 24-hour power supply to agricultural pumpsets would also help the farmers. The Chief Minister was working with a mission to provide irrigation facility to one crore acres in the State.

Stating that the farmers had earlier faced hard time due to the policies pursued by the successive governments in united Andhra Pradesh, Jagadish Reddy reminded that the governments have not even responded to the agitations of the farmers on their issues.

Give crop funding through post offices: Farmers

During the interaction, the local farmers suggested the government to extend the amount of investment support scheme to them through post offices instead of banks. They also felt that power supply more than 10 hours to the agriculture sector would also have a negative impact on them.

But, they asked for 24-hour power supply in their area after the completion of Pilaipally and Dharma Reddy canals.

Munugode MLA K Prabhakar Reddy, Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham, officials of Agriculture and Horticulture Departments attended the programme.
