Centre assures Rs 20 cr for Spices Park in Nizamabad

Hyderabad: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Suresh Prabhu on Wednesday assured to provide Rs 20 crore for establishment of proposed Spices Park in Balkonda of Nizamabad district, towards the Central government’s component.

The State government has already allotted 42 acre land and sanctioned Rs 30 crore for the purpose.

Nizamabad MP K Kavitha met the Union Minister in New Delhi and explained about progress of works pertaining to preparation of a detailed project report by Spices Board of India.

As per the Union Minister’s directions, the Spices Board Chairman along with a team of officials from Union Commerce Ministry will visit Hyderabad on February 3 and hold a workshop with turmeric farmers, traders and other stakeholders.

Prabhu has also agreed to inaugurate a special turmeric cell for the benefit of farmers in Telangana State in February. He assured to supply quality turmeric seed and also requested NABARD to provide financial assistance to farmers for setting up boilers for turmeric processing.

He also promised to announce a joint action plan in association with Union Ministry of Agriculture providing remunerative price for turmeric crop.

Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju has responded positively to a request made by MP Kavitha for development of the airport at Jakranpally in Nizamabad district.

During a meeting with the Union Minister, she said the demand was kept pending for a long time despite repeated pleas from local people. She urged the Union Minister to send a Central team to examine feasibility of establishment of airport for which the latter responded positively.
