Wanaparthy girl student held for promoting enmity

Adilabad: A girl student from Wanaparthy district, on Friday, was arrested for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Adivasi leader by posting a video clip on WhatsApp.
She was produced before a court in Adilabad and was sent to judicial remand.

Adilabad Town Inspector V Suresh said the suspect  was Mudawat Sonu (23), a post-graduate student and native of Kothakota village in Wanaparthy district. She was arrested in Mahabubnagar and brought to Adilabad.

Sonu had allegedly uploaded a derogatory video clip on instant messaging application against a particular community. She then circulated it within her community on WhatsApp, with an intention to cause hurt to the sentiment of people belonging to other community. Based on a complaint from Adivasis, a case was booked against her and police took up investigation.

Adilabad Superintendent of Police Vishnu S Warrier cautioned that stringent action would be taken against those who spread similar messages and video clips on WhatsApp, Youtube, Facebook etc, disturbing harmony of society and, law and order. He said police were keeping a tab on posts and messages being circulated on these platforms.
