Villagers mourn death of a cow in Bhongir

Yadadri-Bhongir: In an unusual gesture, the villagers of Kotamarthi, located 65 kms from the district headquarter Bhongir conducted a condolence meeting for a cow, which died recently. The cow, Gangothri had died on December 7 and villagers had performed the last rites according to tradition and had also organised a feast for the poor.

Interestingly, the children of the village also recited slokas from the Gita even as the villagers observed two minutes silence. Recollecting his memory, the priest of Sri Parvathai Ramalingeshweara Swamy temple, Venkateshwarlu, said a man had donated Gangothri to the temple after which a small shed was set up to it in front of the temple. Meanwhile, Assistant Director of Veterinary department, Suryapet district extended Rs 1,116 as his contribution for conducting the condolence meeting. Interestingly, priests had also performed rituals welcoming its birth a year-and-half ago.
