‘Use gifted intellectual capacities to rise in life’

Mahabubnagar: Senior Civil Judge Sreevidya, who was the chief guest at the event celebrating International Day for the Disabled, on Sunday, told the differently-abled people not to be overwhelmed with their disability and instead use their gifted intellectual capacities to come up in life.

She was speaking at the ceremony held at Ambedkar Kala Bhavan in Mahabubnagar town. She said differently-abled people were better than many people whose disabilities were not visible from outside.

She appreciated the students of Government Residential School for the Visually Handicapped in Mahabubnagar for singing the national anthem melodiously and added that many people were too lazy to even get up and sing the national anthem even though they had no disability.

She told the differently-abled people who attended the event that there were various Acts enacted for the welfare of the differently-abled and there was also a system in place to make State and Central governments accountable to protect their rights. If the governments fail to do so, she said that the courts had the power to make them accountable.

She added that there were two advocates assigned to attend the weekly grievance day of differently-abled and asked the petitioners to contact her if any official neglected their requests and complaints.

A rally was held from Zilla Praja Parishad office to Ambedkar Bhavan earlier during the day. Prizes were distributed to students, who won prizes in the district-level sports competitions held in Mahabubnagar last week.
