Trekking attracts many youth in Jayashankar Bhupalpally

Jayashankar Bhupalpally: A trekking event organised by the district Forest Department in the Eturnagaram wildlife sanctuary witnessed good response from adventure and nature lovers.

Some 100 students from Warangal Vaagdevi group of colleges alone participated in the event.

Led by district eco-tourism coordinator Suman Kalyanapu, they began trekking around 8 am. At the Blackberry Island, they climbed the watch tower to see the thick and vast forest.

A student Sandhyarani said she had gone to Adilabad forest but had never seen this type of thick forest and the island was covered by blackberry trees. “This event will remain in my heart for a long time as I really enjoyed a lot during the trip,” she added.

The trekkers also visited the Dameravai megalithic burials also known dolmens in Tadvai forest area. “These dolmens will help us understand ancient funeral rites. It is believed that they belonged to 3,000 BC. People at that time used to burn the dead, place the bones inside a sarcophagus and close it with a large stone. That way they believed the dead would rest in peace,”  Suman said.

Vaagdevi group of colleges Commerce Department head Dathatatreyulu said he was shocked to see such big burials with large cap like stones on them. “I would like to visit the place with my family and friends again to know more about this lesser known areas,” he added.

In the last leg, they visited the Tadvai Forest Huts, Museum and camera traps.
