‘Telangana govt has no connection with shifting of ISC to Manipur’

Hyderabad: The State government doesn’t have any connection with the conduct or cancellation of Indian Science Congress (ISC), government whip in Legislative Council Palla Rajeshwar Reddy said here on Friday.

Speaking to mediapersons at TRSLP, he said without knowing the facts the opposition parties were blaming the government for shifting of ISC from Hyderabad to Manipur. “The government is not intervening in functioning of autonomous bodies, it is the Osmania University which came forward for conduct of ISC on its campus and its administrative body had approached Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), but later University authorities sought more time for conduct of event,” Rajeshwar Reddy said.

Reddy said after suicide of University student Murali, the situation suddenly became tense and students threatened to prevent Prime Minister from entering the campus. Even after sequence of incidents, the administrative body of OU was ready to hold the ISC meet at later dates but the ISCA insisted on shifting the venue. But wihout knowing the facts Congress leaders were blaming the government, he said. Adding that there was no monetary loss as alleged by Congress due to shifting of ISC.

He said the State government is capable enough to conduct national and international events and making arrangements for three international events at Hyderabad in the month of February – Mining-Today, IT-Congress and Bio Asia.
