Seven Maoists killed in Maharashtra

Hyderabad: Seven naxalites including five women died in an alleged exchange of fire with the police in Kalleda forest area of Maharashtra State abutting Jayashankar Bupalpally district of Telangana on Wednesday morning, reports reaching here said.

Police team encountered the Maoists some 15 km away from the Jimmalaguda police station and a fierce gun battle ensued. Police found the bodies of five women and two men. It is suspected that at least another naxalite was killed and several others injured in the firing. The Maoist squad was stated to be the Local Organising Squad (LOC) of Sironcha area.

Many kit bags were recovered from the scene of encounter. It was not yet known how many weapons were recovered from the encounter.

The CPI (Maoist) is observing the Martyr’s week from December 2 to December 8 to coincide with the 17th anniversary of the formation of the of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA).
