PLGA Week has Jayashankar Bhupalpally on high alert

Jayashankar Bhupalpally: The ongoing People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) week celebrations of Maoists and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s scheduled inspection of Tupakulagudem, Medigadda and other barrages being built across the Godavari river on Thursday, has put the police force in the district on high alert.

The encounter in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district on Wednesday has also kept the police on alert, and, personnel from greyhounds, CRPF, and special party are taking additional care in combing the forest areas in order to prevent to any untoward incident.

A massive combing operation was launched two days ago keeping in mind CM’s visit. Intensive vehicle checking is being carried out on highways and roads, mainly in Mahadevpur, Maha Muttaram, Kataram, and Kannaigudem mandals in the district. Special focus is being laid on villages situated on the border of Telangana and Maharashtra.

Pamphlets and wall posters of CPI (Maoist) were found at several places in Venkatapur and Wazeedu mandals in the district in last four days. The police defused a pressure activated bomb at Vijayapuri colony in Venkatapur mandal on Tuesday.

However, the police said the Maoists were not strong enough to carry out any action in the district. “The Maoists who escaped from Gadchiroli encounter must have gone into deeper forests of Gadchiroli. There is no possibility of their sneaking into our border as we have been conducting combing operations on a regular basis,” said a senior police official. “However, our forces are on high alert in the district considering the CM’s visit,”he added. Meanwhile, SP R Bhaskaran and other officials, on Wednesday, visited the sites of barrages and monitored the security arrangements for CM’s inspection.
