Now, Telangana to distribute cattle

Hyderabad: After successful implementation of sheep distribution scheme, the State government is now all set to start cattle distribution scheme. In the first phase, cattle would be distributed to around 2.20 lakh beneficiaries.

To improve the rural economy and revive caste-based professions, the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has started distribution of sheep to Golla and Kurma communities, which was yielding positive results. Within four months since the start of the scheme, the department officials have distributed around 30 lakh sheep to beneficiaries against the target of 1.50 crore.

Now, the Animal Husbandry Department has decided to distribute cows and buffalos at a subsidised rate of 50 per cent. And the subsidy component would be further increased in case of SC/ST dairy farmers. “We have started identifying the real beneficiaries at village level. Within short time cattle will be distributed to them as part of White Revolution in Telangana,” said Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy development T Srinivas Yadav to Telangana Today. The best quality of cattle will be distributed to the dairy farmers by spending around Rs 50,000 – 75,000 on each cattle. Unlike sheep procurement, the department is planning to give free hand to dairy development societies to purchase cattle on their own. Another prime intention behind distribution of subsidised cattle to dairy farmers is to procure milk for the State needs.

According to the department estimations, over one crore litres of milk was required every day which is far from the present procurement of all dairies in the State. “It will avoid import of milk from neighbouring States. Various private players are dominating the dairy sector, once the government distribute cattle to dairy farmers the production of milk will improve in the State,” said Srinivas Yadav.
