No substitute for mother’s milk and mother tongue: Jnanpith Awardee

Hyderabad: There is no substitute either for mother’s milk or mother tongue. No music is closer to heart than the language of mother and no other face is dear than mother’s face,” said Jnanpith Awardee, Pratibha Ray. Pratibha from Odisha who is also a recipient of Padma Shri, said that religion, region and politics may divide people but literature unites them. “This is what Telangana Sahitya Academy has done by uniting writers of various States on a single platform,” she said.

“It is a commendable act by organising a conference on language and literature. The felicitation of other language writers by the State government is an eye-opener for others. Time has come to be united which will help our emotional integration,” advocated Pratibha. Pointing out that mother tongue is being neglected all over the country and even the parents these days proudly proclaim that their children do not know own language, she says, “there is no inferiority complex in learning mother tongue and it is the responsibility of parents to encourage their children learn their own language”.

Describing Telangana Sahitya Academy as a torch bearer for other States, she said the conference is an occasion to bring diaspora from all over the world to their roots and mother land.
