Maoist booby trap defused by police in Telangana’s Bhupalpally

Jayashankar Bhupalpally: A pressure activated device suspected to have been planted by Maoists as a booby trap at Vijayapuri colony in Venkatapuram mandal was defused by the police on Tuesday.

ASP Eturunagaram Rahul Hegde told ‘Telangana Today’ that the booby trap with small batteries had been placed under a poster by CPI Maoists.

“They placed the device with intention to kill or harm policemen as they know that the police/CRPF personnel conduct combing operations in that area,” the ASP said, adding that the CRPF men and district bomb squad had defused the bomb. The Maoists have been putting up posters calling upon the people to make their ongoing People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) week celebrations a success.

It may be recalled here that an auto driver sustained severe injuries on his face when a pressure activated device went off near Vijayapuri colony on December 1 last year.

Venkatapuram and Wazeedu mandals in the district which share the border with Chattisgarh were once bastions of Maoists.
