Inter-State gang nabbed in Jogulamba Gadwal, booty recovered

Jogulamba Gadwal: An inter-State gang of thieves who have been giving people of Gadwal, Narayanpet, Mahabubnagar, Jadcherla and other areas headache were nabbed by Jogulamba Gadwal Police on Thursday.

CCTV cameras set up across the district headquarters helped the police to catch hold of the thieves. According to Jogulamba ASP Bhaskar and DSP Siurender Rao, the mastermind Soma Shekhar, a native of Srirampur colony in Bellari district of Karnataka had been working at a fish market in Mumbai.

On December 9, Shekhar broke-into a house in the Housing Board Colony in Gadwal town. With the help of CCTV footage, police identified and circulated pictures of the suspects in neighbouring States. It came to the notice of police that the suspect was already booked under some cases in Bellari.

On Wednesday, the suspect was caught at Gadwal railway station. During interrogation he told police that he had carried-out over several thefts since 1995 and was released from jail in June 2017, after which he went back to his old ways. It came to the notice of police that apart from theft cases, he was also a prime suspect in a murder case.

His wife Hussain Bi Shaikh, mother-in-law Shaikh Khaja Bi and his sister-in-law Rasool Bi also assisted him during thefts and helped him to sell the booty in Mumbai. Police recovered 47 tolas of gold and 1.67 kg of silver ornaments from their possession.

ASP Bhaskar and DSP Surender Rao appreciated the efforts of Gadwal CI Venkateswarlu, Gadwal Rural SI Amjad Ali, Gadwal Town SI Srinivas, Special Party Policemen Ranjith, Ravi, Venkatesh, Vinay, Bheemarayudu and Chandraiah (CCTV) for their brilliant job.

They conveyed special thanks to Collector Rajat Kumar Saini for setting-up CCTV cameras across the town, which helped them nab the thieves.
