Harish Rao asks Congress to end opportunistic politics

Nalgonda: Irrigation and Marketing Minister T Harish Rao asked Congress leaders to shun opportunistic politics and not provoke oustees against irrigation projects.

Accompanied by Home Minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy and Power Minister G Jagadish Reddy, Rao inaugurated market go-downs at Mall and Kondamallepally in Devarakonda Assembly constituency. Speaking at a meeting organised on the premises of Agricultural Market Yard at Konda Mallepally, Rao said the government took up several irrigation projects to resolve drinking water and irrigation problems.

Earlier, the Congress government shelved several irrigation projects. These are put on fast track by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR), who came to power in the newly formed Telangana. He pointed out that the government also provided irrigation facility to four lakh acres under Koilsagar and Nettemphad projects in Mahabubnagar district this year.

“The Opposition can pressure the government if there is delay in executing projects. Contrary to this, Congress leaders in the State are trying to create hurdles by approaching the Green Tribunal and courts,” Rao said.

Exposing the double stand of rival party on the Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme, the Irrigation Minister said TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy and CLP leader K Jana Reddy, who were representing from erstwhile Nalgonda district, kept quite when a Congress MLA from Mahabubnagar district objected to the releasing of water to Dindi project from Kalvakurthi project.

He also charged the Congress leaders with provoking the farmers to not give their land for irrigation projects. He alleged that the leaders have been carrying out Gobbles’ publicity against the State government for their political survival.

Terming the TRS government as pro farmers, Harish said most schemes and projects taken up by the Chief Minister were aimed at their welfare. Mission Kakatiya was taken up for the restoration of 46,000 village tanks, he said. Water levels in bore and open wells improved significantly where the tanks were restored. But, before this, the area of ayacut under village tanks was 11 lakh acres, which now rose to 16 lakh acres, he said.

He also said KCR made Telangana as a role model for India with the land records purification, which is nearly completed. The initiative will benefit farmers, who earlier made rounds to government officials for pattadar passbooks and title deeds.

Responding to the request of Devarakonda MLA R Ravindra Kumar Naik, Harish assured that Pogilla Lift Irrigation Scheme in Chandampet mandal and Nachapuram Lift Irrigation Scheme in PA Pally mandal would be examined to provide irrigation to upper flat area. He also inspected the works of Dindi Balancing Reservoir (Nakkalagandi project) at Thedevarpally in Chandamper mandal.

On the sidelines, Harish announced that the works of Dindi Balancing Reservoir, which was taken up at Rs 570 crore, were 60 per cent complete and by next monsoon the project reservoir will store 4 tmc water, against its full capacity was 7.5 tmc.

Of the 43 km of the first tunnel DBR, 30 km was completed. Works on the second tunnel were completed. In addition, the lining works were completed 50 per cent. He warned of blacklisting the contractor of Pendlipaka project if the works were not speeded up in 10 days. The Irrigation Minister also assured that all submerged hamlets of Dindi Balancing Reservoir would be brought under Relief and Rehabilitation Package.
