Gang stealing copper wires arrested in Nalgonda

Nalgonda: The Nidamanoor police on Thursday arrested a four-member gang for stealing copper wires worth Rs 5 lakh from transformers.

The arrested were Kavati Srinu (50) and Kambatipati Alivelu (30), natives of Lingala in Nagarkurnool district, Pambali Ravi (28), a resident of Petulla village in Ranga Reddy district, Kambampati Ram Babu (35), a resident of Haliya in Nalgonda district.

They stole copper bundles from 30 transformers at Nidmanoor, Haliya, Thripuraram, Vemulapally, Tirumalagiri Adavidevulapally and Peddavoora in Nalgonda district. Their total cost would be nearly Rs. 5 lakhs. Their modus operandi was to fuse off the transformers before breaking them for stealing copper from it.

Presenting the arrested before the media, Superintendent of Police DV Srinivasa Rao said, on a tip-off, the police apprehended them from an autorickshaw near Chowdary Hotel in Nidamanoor.

He said Rs 2.4 lakh in cash and five copper wire bundles worth Rs 1.6 lakh were seized from their possession. Haliya Circle Inspector K Danunjay, Nidmanoor Sub-Inspector B Yadaiah were also present.
