Fast-track Mission Bhagiratha to water 785 habitations, says Pocharam

Sangareddy: Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy instructed officials and contractors to fast track Mission Bhagiratha works in Singur-Jukkal segment to supply drinking water to 785 habitations in Kamareddy district by December 25.

Speaking to news reporters after inspecting the intake well, treatment plant and other works at Singur project in Sangareddy district, the Minister said a majority of works were completed so far. Stating that they had already grounded the intra-village works to connect all these 785 habitations spread in 19 mandals, Reddy said they had aimed at completing rest of the works by December 25.

Stating that they had spent Rs 1,300 crore on Singur-Jukkal segment alone, the Minister said two treatment plants would treat 1.45 lakh MLD water every day. Reddy further said Banswada, being represented by the Minister, Jukkal, Bodan and three Mandals of Yellareddy Assembly constituency would get drinking water from the Singur-Jukkal segment of Bagiratha scheme and rest of the Yellareddy Assembly constituency and entire new Nizamabad district would get drinking water from Sriramsagar project.

Hailing Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for taking up the project, Reddy said he had set a role model for the nation in supplying drinking water to every house in the State. The Minister said the State government was spending a whopping Rs 40,000 crore to supply drinking water to 20,670 habitations in the entire State.

The Minister, along with Kamareddy Collector N Satyanarayana, Yellareddy MLA Enegu Srinivas Reddy, Jukkal MLA Hanmanth Shinde, Zilla Parishad Chairman Dafedar Raju and public representatives of local bodies have visited the site to examine the ongoing works of Mission Bhagiratha pertaining to Kamareddy district on Thursday.
