Delegates get nostalgic at WTC seeing forgotten utilities

Hyderabad: Grinding stone (Isurrayi) and pestle (Kuduru Rollu) have faded into oblivion with the advent of latest electrical appliances and many of the present generation perhaps would not have heard about them or even seen them.

It is in this context, World Telugu Conference seeks to present such traditional and forgotten utilities. At the venue, crowds in a large number are seen flocking to have a look at these old utensils, generally used for grinding pulses and turmeric, being showcased by a group of women from Yadadri.

Laxmi, along with her neighbour, displays ‘Isurrayi’ and wooden ‘Kuduru Rollu’ to explain to the younger generation the tools that were used in olden days. “Not many of this generation know about these tools. They mostly rely on electrical grinders,” she said.

The stall, in which these tools are on display, particularly attracted women delegates who also got busy taking selfies there. Madhavi, a teacher from LB Nagar, recalls childhood days and says, “We saw these being used at our grandparent’s home. Now, after several decades, it is good to see them again,” she added.
