Crime rate down by 2.5% in Karimnagar

Karimnagar: The overall crime rate in Karimnagar Police Commissionerate limit has dipped slightly by 2.53 per cent in the year 2017 as compared to last year. A total of 3,649 cases were registered this year as compared to 3,744 cases in 2016. Also, the loss of property recovered has also been reduced to Rs 1.25 crore this year from Rs 2.45 crore last year.

The crime rate has reduced only because of different initiatives taken up by the Commissionerate authorities, said Commissioner of Police, VB Kamalasan Reddy while disclosing the details of annual crime report at a press conference held at police headquarters here on Wednesday. In order to control crime and maintain law and order situation in the commissionerate limits, they have introduced blue colts, introspective vehicles, bodywarm cameras, operation night safety, cordon and search and others.

Modern technologies such as closed circuit cameras, drone cameras, Hawk Eye and others have also been used to keep surveillance on various activities and speed up investigation process. 32 cases were detected with the help of CCTV footage. Stating that communal harmony was the major problem in Karimnagar, CP informed that CC cameras have been installed in all sensitive areas. Terming 2018 as year of technology, he also informed that the crime prone areas would be geo-tagged with the help of crime mapping. The Commissioner of Police informed that they would create a separate Facebook page for every police station soon. Measures will also be taken to control road accidents, he assured.
