CM KCR inspects works on underground tunnels for Kaleshwaram project

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, as part of his Day- 2 stock taking on Kaleshwaram project works, inspected the tunnel works under package- 8 near Ramadugu in Karimnagar district. Accompanied by the Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and DGP Mahender Reddy and a host of others, he ventured to the underground work site and enquired about the work progress with the officials.

He was apprised that 99.37 per cent of the 8.26 km long tunnel was completed. Nearly 71.43 per cent of the lining work on the tunnel was also completed so far. The progress of works on tunnel, targeted for completion by the end of November last, was almost on schedule. The officials said the pace of works was stepped up to ensure completion of the left over components. The tunnel lining works are expected to be completed by March next year.

About 94.37 per cent of works on the surge pool and 97 per cent of works on pump house were also completed. One of the seven pumps to be installed under package 8 is ready for dry run.

He also visited the underground work site at Medaram in package 6 which has 2.5 kms of approach channel, 22.48 km long tunnel. He was informed that only 7.49 per cent of the tunnel works was left to be completed. The tunnel works and lining works would be completed by March and June next year, they said
