Chaos erupts as Mahabubnagar Collector’s gunmen manhandle farmer

Mahabubnagar: In an alleged misuse of power, District Collector Ronald Rose’s gunmen beat-up a farmer for refusing to meet the Collector when asked.

This happened in Damargidda mandal on Saturday when Collector Ronald Rose was returning to Mahabubnagar after visiting KGBV School in Maddur on Saturday. Collector had sighted impressions of tractor’s KG wheels (Dammu Chakralu in Telugu) on the road, which were not supposed to be driven on the road due to the damage they do to it. Violators are liable to pay Rs 1000 fine as per Motor Vehicles Act for violating this rule.

The impressions of the KG wheels on the road led Collector to suspect that a tractor with such wheels at a nearby farm land could have done that damage. Collector asked his gunmen Venkat Kumar and Narsimhulu to summon Raghuveera Reddy (45), the farmer who was working in the field. When the farmer refused to heed to the gunmen’s orders, he was beat-up black and blue by the gunmen even though many women farm labourers who were present there requested the gunmen to let their landlord go.

Incidentally, Raghuveera Reddy’s brother Vera Shiva Reddy was a constable who had resigned for the cause of Telangana during the movement. He is currently a state leader of Balarama Rythu Sangham. When he came to know of the misuse of power by the gunmen of Collector, all hell broke loose.

Policemen from three nearby police stations reached the scene in no time. Farmers deflated the tyres of DPRO’s vehicle and blocked MRO’s vehicle demanding that a case be lodged against the gunmen and the Collector for giving such orders.

The Sub-inspector of Damargidda police station had a tough time convincing the villagers who had mobilized by then, to let go government officials.

By evening, complaint was lodged by the two gunmen against the farmer for trying to obstruct their duty.

The farmers are in no mood to let go this incident and are demanding that cases be booked against the officers for beating-up Raghuveera Reddy, if not they would commit suicide in front of the Collector’s residence.
