All Telangana market yards to be integrated with e-NAM portal

Hyderabad: The Minister for Marketing and Irrigation T Harish Rao on Sunday wanted operations at all the Agriculture Produce Market Committees (APMC) in the State to be integrated with the pan-Indian electronic trading portal of the National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) well before Kharif-2018.

Inaugurating the training classes on e-seva services in marketing department at the Bowenpally Market Yard here, the Minister stressed the need for promoting online services in the marketing department as it would not only benefit the farmers but help in improving further the State’s ranking in “Ease of Doing Business” (EoDB). Telangana State has been topping the EoDB index.

Telangana State with as many as 44 market committees providing online operations as part of the new concept of marketing is being looked upon as the icon of the e-Nam system at the national level. Turnover-wise, TS is topping the list of States in e-NAM trading, while Haryana was doing equally well so far as the volume of trade is concerned.

The Minister had already directed the marketing department to extend the e-Nam services to 14 more APMCs immediately. It will be extended to rest of the regulated market committees in a phased manner.

The State has in all about 180 market committees whose operations are being monitored thoroughly by the Marketing department. All the yards will have the facility for issue of e-licenses and e-permits to traders by June next. Senior officers from five districts including Hyderabad and Warangal attended the one-day training programme. Training on e-services will be extended to other districts in the next phase.

The Minister also wanted the weigh bridges at the market yards to be integrated with the e-portal to help the farmers avoid weighing-related issues while ensuring competitive pricing with inter-mandi and inter-State bidding and prompt payments.

The Centre has targeting to integrate 585 market committees with the e-NAM system all over the country in three years. Telangana State has got 44 of the targeted 250 in the first phase. There are instances wherein the State had spent over Rs 1 crore to ensure full fledged e-Nam operations in certain yards as against an assistance of Rs 30 lakh being provided by the Centre.
