Untimely rains dash farmers’ hopes in Telangana

Adilabad: Untimely rains in different parts of Adilabad, Mancherial, and Nirmal district on Wednesday midnight damaged standing paddy and cotton crops which were in the harvesting stage.

The farmers, who were already reeling under crisis-like situation due to deficit rainfall, were jolted by the downpours. According to information provided by district authorities, Sirikonda and Indervelli mandals had a rainfall of 53 mm and 37 mm, respectively.

In Mancherial, Tandur mandal registered 38 mm of rainfall. Bheemini and Kannepalli saw 36 mm of rainfall, while Luxettipet mandal recorded 27 mm of rainfall. Similarly, Kasipet mandal witnessed 19 mm of rainfall.

In Nirmal, Dilawarpur mandal recorded 52 mm of rainfall, while Nirmal and Soan mandals saw 39 mm of rainfall. Narsapur (G) mandal had 32.8 mm of rainfall and Bhainsa mandal witnessed 15 mm of rainfall. The average rainfall of Mancherial and Nirmal district on Wednesday was calculated to be 12.7 mm.

Due to the unseasonal rains, standing paddy crops in these mandals have fallen, incurring losses to farmers. The agrarian community wanted authorities to carry out survey of loss for the extending monetary help.
