Telangana to use blockchain tech for land records

Hyderabad: Telangana is evaluating the application of blockchain technology to secure digitised revenue and land records.

In the first phase, this will be used for land records and will help in tackling fraud registrations. With this technology in place, there will be no chance of tampering with documents as they will leave a trail of changes, said IT Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan.

He said the first phase of land record purification that the Government of Telangana has taken up will end by December. “By end of December, the entire land records purification exercise will be completed in the State. We will create a new system through which all these records will be maintained. Whenever a transaction for sale/purchase is done, the databases get updated,” Ranjan said.

“We are trying out blockchain technology to bring transparency in land registration. We are doing pilots in our State for a foolproof security cover,” he said at ‘GAMBIT’, a conference on Bitcoins and Domains and Gaming Space here. Blockchain can also be used in transportation and health records, he added.

On Bitcoins, he said “it still remains a grey area for most of us. We need to develop a better understanding”. There is a need for caution as not everyone is familiar with the concept, the official said.
