Rich tributes paid to Jyotirao Phule in Nalgonda

Nalgonda: Leaders of Backward Classes Welfare Associations and political leaders on Tuesday paid rich tributes to Jyotirao Phule in Nalgonda and Suryapet districts on the occasion of his 142th death anniversary.

In Nalgonda, the Nalgonda Municipal Chairperson Boddupally Lakshmi Srinivas, BC Welfare Association district president Ramaraju and BC Youth Association leader Duduku Lakshminarayana were among those who garlanded the statue of Phule at Clock Tower Centre in the town and paid floral tributes to the late leader.

Speaking on the occasion, Nalgonda Municipal Chairperson said that Phule had dedicated his life for the eradication of untouchability and uplift of the drown-trodden sections in the country. He also strove for societal change on child marriages and discrimination against the women. He was the first person in the country who fought for provision of educational facilities for girls and women, she pointed out.

In Suryapet, the death anniversary of Phule was observed at his statue near new bus stand in the town. Former Minister Ramreddy Damodhar Reddy and Suryapet Municipal Chairperson Ganduri Pravallika Prakash were among those who garlanded the statue of Phule and paid rich tributes to the late leader.  

Speaking on the occasion, Ganduri Pravallika Prakash observed that Phule was a great social reformer, who worked against caste system and child marriages. Satyashodhak Samaj, which was setup by Phule, also worked for removal of socio-economic backwardness of Dalits, she added.
