NDA distorting history, says Uttam Kumar Reddy

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday accused the BJP-led NDA government of distorting history to marginalise the contributions of the Nehru-Gandhi family for the country.

Addressing the centenary birth celebrations of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at Gandhi Bhavan here, Reddy recalled the services of her for the nation and said all her decisions had a vision. He said it was during Indira Gandhi’s regime that India began its journey to become a super power. She ensured welfare of poor, empowerment of weaker sections, industrial growth, food security and also dealt with country’s enemies with an iron hand.

“Today, India is counted among world’s major economies primarily due to the policies introduced and implemented by Indira Gandhi,” he said.

Slamming the Modi government for distorting history, he said the Nehru-Gandhi family would continue to secure a place in the hearts of crores of Indians forever.

“People of India would elect AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister in the next elections,” he said, and urged the Congress party’s cadre to play an active role in enlightening the masses about the contributions of the Nehru-Gandhi family for the nation.

The TPCC chief also said Indira Gandhi’s centenary birth anniversary was being celebrated across the State on a grand scale. He said the Congress party’s flag was hoisted in more than 5,000 gram panchayats and over 60 municipalities across the State.

The occasion was also marked with blood donation camps, distribution of rice and sarees among the poor and other welfare activities organised by the Congress leaders across the State.
