Namasthe Telangana staffer donates mother’s body to medical college

Mahabubnagar: In the days when people are reluctant to donate organs of their family members after their death, a 50-year-old man donated his mother’s body to a government medical college.

Kadarla Sugunamma (80), mother of Kadarla Srikanth, branch manager of Namasthe Telangana, passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest at SVS Hospital in Mahabubnagar on Sunday noon. As the sad news reached the bereaved family, Srikanth immediately decided to donate the body to Mahabubnagar Government Medical College for clinical experimentation and research.

“There is a scarcity of dead bodies in medical colleges. Situation is so bad that some colleges are ready to spend up to Rs 1 lakh to procure dead bodies. We thought by donating our mother’s body, we could be of some assistance to medicos,” said Srikanth.

Mahabubnagar MLA V Srinivas Goud visited the government hospital where Sugunamma’s body was kept and offered condolences to the family members. He appreciated the gesture of Kadarla family and recalled that during the Telangana movement Balayya, an activist’s body was also donated to Mahabubnagar Government Medical College by his daughter who was working as a nursing practitioner in the college’s hospital.
