‘Mohan Reddy used jail premises to settle cases’

Karimnagar: With Superintendent of District Central Prison N Shiva Kumar Goud justifying a video of special ‘mulakhat’, which was leaked on social media, the alleged meeting between the suspended ASI B Mohan Reddy and his family members has become a controversy.

The jail officials have been allegedly providing special provisions to the tainted cop by flouting prison norms. Though there were allegations against the jail authorities of providing VIP treatment to the suspended cop, who is an undertrial prisoner, it was never proved. However, the leaked video seems to have put the officials in a fix.

With a view to reduce cases registered against him, Mohan Reddy began holding settlements with complainants. He used the jail premises to settle cases. ASI used to discuss settlement deals in the jailer’s chamber. Both the jail and Anti-Corruption Bureau officials helped the tainted cop, a top prison official said.

Based on ACB officials’ advice, Mohan Reddy began settlements. Whenever it was required, an ACB officer used to contact one of the jail officials from his driver’s mobile phone and directed him to arrange for special ‘mulakhat’. Taking the ‘mulakhat’ provision as an advantage, the jail authorities arranged for over six such meetings to help the ASI.

However, Superintendent of District Central Prison N Shiva Kumar Goud said that special ‘mulakhat’ was given to Mohan Reddy to discuss with his lawyer. But, no lawyer was found in the 54-second video.

Recently, two benamis of Mohan Reddy transferred properties to the names of its original owners. Pullam Mallesham and Jitender Reddy, benamis of the ASI, transferred properties to the names of original owners Raji Reddy and Srinivas Reddy respectively. Recently, Mohan Reddy tried to settle a case with a businessman, but in vain. While the victim claimed that he got only Rs 40 lakh from the ASI, the cop claimed that he had given Rs 90 lakh to the businessman.

The jail staff, who gave special ‘mulakhat’ permission to Mohan Reddy, are now in trouble with the Prison Department launching an inquiry into the episode.
