Karimnagar: Youth kidnapped, thrashed for talking with girlfriends

Karimnagar: In a shocking incident, a youth was kidnapped and thrashed, allegedly for talking with his girlfriends on Saturday afternoon.

The Town police have detained the suspects with the help of CCTV footage.

Disclosing details of the kidnap episode to the media here on Sunday, Commissioner of Police Kamalasan Reddy said the suspects, Md Afroz Ahmed (24), resident of Valmikinagar and Md Aadhil (22), Rajvichaman, Karimnagar, had kidnapped Thangallapalli Bhramma Teja and beat him up.

A resident of Husnabad, Teja was a dropout from Jyothismathi Engineering College in Karimnagar, while his former classmates were pursuing engineering in the same college.

On Saturday, he went to college to meet his friends and later, reached the Karimnagar bus-stand. While he along with three of his girlfriends were walking towards the market, the suspects posing as police personnel, approached them near Mahalaxmi temple around 3 pm and took Teja on their bike.

They took him to a secluded place near Bommakal and thrashed him. They later left the spot after snatching his mobile phone, ATM cards and other documents.

Based on a complaint lodged by Teja at 6pm, Town Circle Inspector Tula Srinivasa Rao formed a special team and detained the suspects by 8 pm with the help of CCTV footage.

Informing that each camera was equal to 30 police personnel, the CP requested the people to come forward to establish cameras at important establishments such as colleges, temples, function halls, cinema halls and other places.

Besides controlling criminal activities, cameras would help for early detection of cases. As part of ‘Nenu Sahitham’, the police have decided to setup 10,000 cameras, he informed and added that Station House Officers were planning to setup five cameras in every village.
