Insurance firms told to clear kharif claims in Telangana

Hyderabad: Agriculture Secretary C Partha Sarathi on Monday asked all insurance companies’ representatives to complete agriculture crop claims pertaining to Kharif 2016 by the end of November.

Addressing a review meeting with insurance companies’ officials at the State Secretariat, he expressed dismay over the inordinate delay in disbursal of claims by the companies. “We held several rounds of meetings with insurance companies’ representatives and asked them to complete the settlements on time but it is still pending,” the Secretary said.

He directed agriculture officials to conduct a mandal level bankers meeting and ensure that all the claims of Kharif 2016 are completed by November 25 and the claim amount credited into the accounts of farmers by November 30.

Partha Sarathi also asked the insurance companies to submit the list of representatives appointed mandal and district wise for 2017-18 Yasangi crop. “Insurance companies should conduct filed visits along with department officials to record crop damage,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Agriculture Commissioner Dr M Jaganmohan wanted more publicity programmes to be conducted on the importance of crop insurance and asked mandal and village level officials to chalk out publicity campaigns.
