Farmers take lessons in organic farming in Kazipet

Warangal Urban: Bala Vikasa, a non-profit organisation in Kazipet, which has been promoting organic farming as a part of sustainable development in the field of agriculture, convened an awareness meet on organic farming methods to be used in the rabi seasons on Thursday.

Leaders of nearly 350 organic farmers’ committees were educated on the methods of organic farming and other issues. Leaders from Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural, Jangaon and Siddipet attended the meet where scientists explained them about the steps to be taken to obtain a high yield using organic methods.

Addressing the farmers, Executive Director of Bala Vikasa, Singareddy Shoury Reddy said that they had been spending Rs 40 lakh every year on training to promote organic farming. “We are offering training to the farmers at the field, village, mandal and project level in organic farming,” he said, adding that they were also handing over the equipment and tools used in making organic pesticides and fertiliser.  A total of 1,000 farmers from 55 villages are practising the organic farming, according to Shoury Reddy. Programme officer Tirupathi, Dr Upender Reddy and others participated in the meet.
