Centre to provide better marketing facilities for organic products

Hyderabad: The Central government was planning to improve marketing facilities for organic products too, Union Joint Secretary Niraja Shastri said here on Saturday.

Shastri was in the city to review distribution of soil health cards and implementation of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) in the State.

Addressing District Agriculture Officials at Agriculture Commissionarate Office here, she said soon the Central government would release guidelines to interlink markets to encourage organic production. “If organic farmers are involved in drafting interlinking of marketing policy, it would be more effective,” Shastri said.

She further wanted the officials to record indigenous technologies and innovative methods carried out by farmers in the State so that the Centre can study those methods for bringing about improvements in the agriculture sector. She also asked the officials to distribute soil health cards to every farmer without fail and also explain the importance of soil test.

The Central government official also visited an agriculture farm belonging to Venkat Reddy at Ghodumakunta village of Keesara mandal where Reddy is practising zero budget natural method of agriculture. Besides this, she also visited soil-testing laboratory and organic fertilisers laboratory at Rajendranagar. Agriculture commissioner Dr M Jaganmohan and other officials participated.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Venkat Reddy said the organic rice that he was raising with innovative methods contained vitamins A and C. “The team of Central officials appreciated the new technique in organic farming, and they went through the method of preparing organic sprays and other fertilisers,” he said, adding that the officials said they would refer his techniques to the Indian Council of Agriculture and Research (ICAR).

Reddy explained how a farmer who had lost his eyesight was told by ophthalmologists that nothing could be done, but remarkably regained his eyesight after switching over to organic rice produced in his farm.
