Akshaya Patra Foundation opens 35th kitchen in Telangana

Hyderabad: The Akshaya Patra Foundation, which has been tirelessly working to reach out to thousands of underprivileged students with nutritious meals, now has a new feather in its cap. The foundation is setting up a new kitchen in Kothagudem. This will be the 35th kitchen to be run by the organisation in the country.

MLA Jalagam Venkat Rao has laid foundation stone for a new kitchen being set up by the Akshaya Patra Foundation at the Local Agriculture Market yard in Kothagudem. Addressing the gathering, he stated that three acres had been allotted in Palvoncha for a permanent kitchen to be constructed by the foundation. Expressing his gratitude to Minister T Harish Rao, for allotting a warehouse in the committee for the kitchen, the MLA said that proposals for getting Rs 7.5 crore sanctioned by the State government had been prepared.

Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu expressed his joy on the foundation’s decision of spreading its activities to Kothagudem from Hyderabad and Warangal cities. The Akshaya Patra foundation has developed the kitchen in Kothagudem, and the kitchen would be able to provide nutritious meals for 10,000 school children. The kitchen has been co-sponsored by Nava Bharat Ventures Ltd & film Producer Shobu Yarlagadda

It might be recalled on August 31, this year the foundation in partnership with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), expanded its presence to Narsingi, Telangana, with a high-tech kitchen. The kitchen was set up with the help of The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd., a member of (MUFG). This kitchen provides nutritious school lunch every day, to over 35,000 children in Telangana. This kitchen, in the current phase, is equipped to serve 366 anganwadi centres and in 238 schools through Akshaya Patra’s school lunch programme.
