Adivasi-Lambada feud flares up again in Adilabad

Adilabad: Tension prevailed in Indravelli mandal centre when Adivasis attempted to open commercial establishments during a bandh call given by Lambadas in protest against manhandling a Lambada teacher in Utnoor on Thursday.

However, the police brought the situation under control. The ongoing feud between Adivasis and Lambadas continued to grow with the two groups staging protests and counter protests. It has crept to Indravelli on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Adivasis and other activists tried to reopen the commercial establishments, resulting in the tension. However, large contingents of police forces were deployed to control the situation. Cops dispersed the warring groups and took steps to avoid untoward incidents. Normalcy was restored by the evening.

On the other hand, Utnoor, which has been epicentre of the clashes of these two groups, witnessed a bike rally by Lambadas opposing the attack on the teacher. Outlets of groceries, medicine and fuel stations remained closed in view of the bandh. A vajra vehicle was kept ready for tackling situation.

The Lambadas cautioned that they would not tolerate if the violent acts were continued to occur in future. They demanded authorities to take stern action against those who assaulted the teacher. They raised slogans against certain Adivasi outfits.
